How we approach hard engineering problems

An organization depended on a monolithic operations platform that had grown over more than a decade. It was expensive to change, difficult to scale during peak demand, and increasingly risky to maintain as institutional knowledge dispersed. A full rewrite was considered too risky given round-the-clock operational requirements.

Teams spent significant time locating information scattered across documents, systems, and tribal knowledge. An early AI prototype showed promise but was unreliable, lacked access controls, and could not be trusted for decisions because its answers were neither grounded nor traceable.

A high-volume operational process depended on manually reviewing and re-keying data from unstructured documents. The work was slow, error-prone, and difficult to scale during peaks, and the lack of structured data made downstream reporting unreliable.

Critical operations were spread across systems that were never designed to work together. Data was duplicated and inconsistent, processes required manual coordination across tools, and launching anything new meant fragile point-to-point integrations that were costly to maintain.
